Wilmington, Del. - (9/24/2019) – Chestnut Hill College continued their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule today, Tuesday, September 25, with a late-afternoon contest at Goldey-Beacom College. The Lightning were first on the scoreboard (0-1, 7:05), but a cross into the box from freshman forward
Luciano Torres (Tucuman, Argentina) at 41:30 found sophomore midfielder
David Cortez (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) for a game-tying goal (1-1, 41:30). Unfortunately, the Griffins were not able to keep pace with the Lightning in the second half as Goldey-Beacom College netted three more tallies in an eventual 4-1 final.
Chestnut Hill College (2-2-1, 1-1) had the first couple opportunities of the contest as senior defenseman
Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) lined up corner kicks at 2:08 and 4:33. Regrettably, both sailed through the box without a Griffin connecting on a shot. Conversely, Goldey-Beacom College (4-3, 2-0) made the most of their first chance, capitalizing on a corner kick at 5:53 with a successful cross at 7:05 (0-1). The Scarlet and Gold looked to recover in the minutes that followed, but they were not able to even the score until Torres and Cortez connected midway through the 42
nd-minute (1-1, 41:30). Play remained tied into the second half, but only temporarily as the Lightning struck on three consecutive shots at 56:30 (1-2), 62:15 (1-3), and 65:00 (1-4).
Senior midfielder Levi Maruca (Downingtown, Pa.) provided the assists on all three of the Goldey-Beacom College second half goals, but the first Lightning goal came off a cross into the box from junior defenseman Ethan Maguire (Sydney, Australia) to sophomore forward Josh Moody (Townsend, Del.). Sophomore midfielder Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) led Goldey-Beacom College in shots, taking four en route to recording the game-winning goal (1-2, 56:30). Junior goalkeeper Cole Lewis (Middletown, Del.) made one save in the win (4-2).
The Scarlet and Gold paced Goldey-Beacom College in shots (12-10) and corner kicks (12-4). Cortez offered a team-high four shots; senior midfielder
Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) (3 shots) and Torres (2) also offered multiple attempts. Senior goalkeeper
Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded one save in the loss (2-1-1).
Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 on Saturday, September 28, to continue their CACC schedule with a 3:00 p.m. contest versus Caldwell University.
