Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/28/2019) – Chestnut Hill College left it late, but earned a double overtime victory over Caldwell University on Saturday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup thanks to a free kick winner from
senior defender
Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) with less than a minute left in final the extra period. Bruhn, who also picked up two assists in the win, was one of five different goal scorers for the Griffins in their 5-4 victory.
The Cougars (0-7, 0-3) got on the board first with a 19-yard blast directly off the free kick in the third minute. Chestnut Hill started to take control following the Caldwell opener, with first-half goals from freshman forward
Luciano Torres (Tucuman, Argentina), freshman midfielder
Cesar May Casteneda (Exton, Pa.) and senior defender
Connor Bethel (Hartsville, Pa.). The Cougars answered before the end of the half to cut their deficit to 3-2, but junior forward
Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) was slipped in behind the defense just 10 minutes into the second half to re-extend the Griffins' lead to two. The Cougars came back after freshman forward Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) tallied his second of the game in the 66
th minute before freshman midfielder Kalleb Braga (Belleville, N.J.) tied the game with a near post finish from the top of the box. Chances came and went in the two overtime periods, but a foul at the top of the box set up Bruhn to give the Griffins (3-2-1, 2-1) the win off of the restart.
Vieira posted game-high tallies in goals (two), shots on goal (four) and shots (five) for the Cougars. The team totaled seven shots on goal off of 18 shots. Junior goalkeeper Nils Svere (Lier, Norway) played the entire game in net for Caldwell University, making 11 saves.
