Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/28/2019) – Chestnut Hill College held the lead for most of the game, but dropped its
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon against Caldwell University, 2-1. The Cougars won on a golden goal from senior forward Meghan Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) in the fifth minute of the first overtime period.
Senior forward
Nicole Cahill (Glendora, N.J.) scored the opener for the Griffins (2-4, 0-3) a little more than two minutes into the first half after blocking a clearance from Caldwell freshman goalkeeper Erin Emery (Teaneck, N.J.) into the net to make it 1-0. After back-and-forth action for much of the game, the Cougars (3-2-1, 2-0-1) equalized off of a strike from just outside the box from freshman forward Sarah Costanza (Morris Plains, N.J.) in the 63
rd minute. The game went into overtime tied 1-1, but Grundhauser scored the winner after being slipped in behind the Chestnut Hill defense by junior midfielder Teaghan Darling (Forked River, N.J.) midway through the first overtime period.
The Cougars tallied 26 shots, 10 of which were on goal, in the win. Costanza posted nine total shots and five shots on goal to lead the team. Emery and sophomore goalkeeper Jamie-Lee Bamford, who played in the second half and overtime, combined for three saves.
Junior goalkeeper
Paris Banks (Philadelphia, Pa.) started the game for the Griffins, recording five saves in her half of play. Junior
Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario) spent the second half and overtime in goal, making three saves. Chestnut Hill had six different players combine to register its 10 shots, four of which were on goal.
The Griffins return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at home in their Pack the Place game against Jefferson.
