Chestnut Hill College Takes Third Straight with CACC Win over Caldwell University

PHILADELPHIA (1/19/20) – Chestnut Hill College women's basketball earned its third consecutive win in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) clash against Caldwell University, taking down the Cougars 57-46 in Sorgenti Arena on Sunday afternoon.

After heading into halftime tied, the Griffins (6-11, 5-3) grabbed a hold of the game late in the fourth quarter after outscoring the Cougars (3-15, 3-6), 32-21 in the second half. All 12 points from the team-high scorer, sophomore forward Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.), came in the second half as she rallied to her third straight game in double figures.

Both teams got off to a slow start, shooting around 30 percent with just 21 points between the two after the opening period. The Scarlet and Gold had trailed 12-9, but found its shooting hand in the second quarter, putting up 16 points off 7-of-15 from the field to head into the break tied 25-25.

Coming out of the locker room on a 9-2 run highlighted by a trio of three-pointers from guards Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa), Rachael Millan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), and Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.), Chestnut Hill College led by as many as seven in the frame to head into the final quarter with a 39-34 lead.

The Griffins continued to hit their shots down the stretch, knocking down 8-of-11 field goal attempts in the fourth period to push the game out of reach and set their longest winning streak of the season to date.

Four different Griffins finished in double figures. Miller's 12 points led the way, while Crim, Millan, and Sebold each had 11 points. Sophomore guard Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) posted team-highs in rebounds (5) and steals (3).

Millan, a sophomore recording her second 11-point effort in the last three games, made an impact all over the floor. She tied for team-highs with two offensive rebounds and three steals. She also had four total boards, three assists, and a block in her fourth consecutive start.

Sebold, the conference's leader in assists per game, dished out the second-highest total of her junior season with eight assists. Six of her assists came in the second half to help the Griffins pull away for the win.

Caldwell's freshman guard Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) led the Cougars with 13 points, all of which came in the first half. Senior guard Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) and freshman forward Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) rounded out the team's double-figure scorers, while sophomore guard Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) had a game-high six rebounds.

Chestnut Hill College heads on the road for its next two games, starting with a matchup with Jefferson at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21.
