Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/21/2020) – A three-point basket from freshman guard
Conor Regan (Mullica, N.J.) brought Chestnut Hill College even with #17 Thomas Jefferson University, 20-20 (9:58), midway through the first half of tonight's
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
contest. From there, the Scarlet and Gold narrowly trailed the Rams to a 33-29 (0:55) halftime score before falling behind in a back-and-forth battle that finished on an expanded 91-75 spread. Sophomore guard
Trevonn Pitts (Wyncote, Pa.) led three Griffins in double figures with a career-high 27 points that he earned with a 10-of-16 (.625) shooting performance and a 5-of-9 (.556) free throw effort.
Pitts scored the Griffins' first and last baskets of the affair and scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half. In the more competitive first half, Chestnut Hill College (3-15, 3-6) used a more balanced effort to keep up with Jefferson (16-2, 9-0). The deficit maxed out at nine points, 17-8 (13:15), but quickly evened out at 17-17 (10:38) and again at 20-20 (9:58) with a pair of Regan three pointers (11:52, 9:58) and a series of buckets by sophomore forward
Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) (12:17, 11:19, 10:38) serving as the Griffins' rally. The Scarlet and Gold actually led momentarily and on two occasions but eventually trailed the Rams to a 33-29 halftime spread.
After intermission, Jefferson quickly pushed their four-point edge to 11 points, 43-32 (17:41), and plateaued for a few minutes before establishing a 15-point edge, 60-45, with 12:46 left to play in the game. Chestnut Hill College clawed back within single digits once in the time remaining, doing so on an and-one from freshman guard
Ahmad Bickley (Philadelphia, Pa.) at 5:33 (77-68). He and Pitts tried to best they could to complete the rally, but the effort was all for naught as the Rams closed the league affair with a 14-7 run; 91-75 (0:45).
Sophomore guard Deondre Bourne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior forward Josh Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) were a two-man show for Jefferson. Bourne totaled 26 points, two rebounds, and an assist, while Bradanese offered 24 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Senior forward DeVaughn Mallory (Smyrna, Del.) and senior guard Kylan Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) also reached double figures; the former added eight rebounds and two assists to 18 points, while the latter recorded nine rebounds and five assists in excess of his 13 points.
Pitts added five rebounds and a pair of assists to his high-scoring performance. Butler finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Bickley scored a season-high 14 points, while offering four assists and collecting a rebound for the Griffins. Freshman guard
Scottie Spann Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) was a major contributor for Chestnut Hill College as well with nine points and 12 rebounds.
