Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/5/2020) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed Dominican College to campus for today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Sophomore forward
Amir Warrick (Washington, DC) registered his first double-double of the season – and the second of his career – but his 21 points and 10 rebounds were not enough for the Griffins to overcome the Chargers in a 90-70 conclusion. Dominican College had four players in double figures, including double-double performances from junior forward Jalen Burgess (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) (11 points, 13 rebounds) and senior center Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) (12 points, 11 rebounds).
An opening 7-0 run from Dominican College (11-3, 4-1) forced
Chestnut Hill College (2-12, 2-3) into an early timeout. The Chargers built on their head start, separating from the Griffins by double-digits, 18-8, for the first time with 12:49 remaining and maximizing their first-half lead at 13 points, 28-15, on a Copman layup with 8:23 remaining. The Griffins recovered late with a series of free throws and a fastbreak from freshman guard
Scottie Spann Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) bringing them back within six points; 36-30 (1:57). Unfortunately, the Chargers scored the last two baskets of the period to lead the Scarlet and Gold by 10 points, 40-30, at halftime. Dominican College opened the second half with a 9-2 run, furthering the gap to 17 points, 49-32 (16:42) and forcing the Griffins into another early timeout. But the damage was already done as the Chargers never looked back in a 20-point, 90-70, decision.
Senior guard Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) got the Chargers off to their good start with 16 points in the first half. He finished with a game-high 24 points, hitting five three pointer (5-of-10, .500) in an 8-of-15 (.533) shooting performance that came with three free throws (3-of-4, .750) and a rebound. His backcourt partner, fellow senior guard Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) offered 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal to the Dominican College effort.
Warrick added four assists, a block, and a steal to his double-double. He was 7-of-16 (.438) from the field and 7-of-8 (.875) from the free throw line. Sophomore guard
Trevonn Pitts (Wyncote, Pa.) helped Warrick lead the Griffins with nine points, two rebounds, four assists, and a steal. His classmate,
sophomore forward
Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) totaled five points, eight rebounds, and an assist.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, January 11, when they travel to Felician University for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
