Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/22/2020) – In the first of two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Mental Health Awareness Games this evening at Chestnut Hill College, three Griffins finished in double figures in a 113-62 setback versus #10 Thomas Jefferson University.
Sophomore guard
Trevonn Pitts (Wyncote, Pa.) led the Scarlet and Gold with 14 points, three rebounds, and a pair of assists.
Chestnut Hill College (4-21, 4-12) led Jefferson (24-2, 17-0) in the early going with a quick five points from freshman guard
Conor Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J.); 5-2 (17:41). Unfortunately, the Rams tied the Griffins at 9-9 (15:16) on a layup from senior forward DeVaughn Mallory (Smyrna, Del.) and paced the Scarlet and Gold to a double-digit, 24-14 (11:54), spread just past the 12-minute mark before holding a 54-37 (0:03) halftime lead.
As well as Jefferson shot in the first half (22-of-36, .611), they improved in the second, hitting 21-of-33 (.636) from the floor. As a result the Ram lead grew to 30 points, 79-49, with 11:19 to play, and more than 40 points, 94-53 (6:52), with a little less than seven minutes to play. Only later did the deficit slip to more than 50 points, 112-62 (0:36) as each side clear their benches.
Five Rams finished in double figures; senior guard Kylan Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) led the herd with 26 points, six rebounds, 11 assists, and six steals. His play resulted in double-doubles for Mallory (20 points, 16 rebounds) and senior forward Prince Hickson (Amityville, N.Y.) (13 points, 10 rebounds) and an impressive shooting performance from senior forward Josh Bandanese (Billerica, Mass.), who hit four (4-of-5, .800) three-point baskets in a 10-of-13 (.769) effort that came with a free throw (1-of-2, .500), seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Sophomore guard Ja'Zere Noel (Woodbury, N.J.) was the fifth Ram in double figures; he finished with 10 points and a rebound in the closing minutes.
Pitts was 6-of-10 (.600) from the field and 2-of-3 (.667) from the free throw line in his 14-point effort. He was joined in double figures by sophomore forward
Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) and Regan, who respectively finished with 12 and 11 points. Butler added three blocks to his scoring, while Regan also recorded four rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals.
