Griffins Drop Non-Conference Matchup with Saint Thomas Aquinas College

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (3/12/2020) -- Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse dropped its non-conference clash against Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 19-6. The Griffins (0-4) fell behind early and could not claw their way back into the game against the Spartans (5-2).

Saint Thomas Aquinas College jumped ahead to a 6-0 lead before the Griffins could finally get on the board with a goal from freshman midfielder Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa.) The Griffins slowed the upstart visitors momentarily, but the Spartans would eventually close the half with three goals to take a 13-3 lead into the break.

The Scarlet and Gold held Saint Thomas Aquinas College for the early portion of the second half, scoring the first two goals of the frame to start a run and get back within single digits. The Spartans would find their form again, though, finishing the half outscoring Chestnut Hill College 6-1 for the win.

Senior attackman Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) had a season-high five goals for the Griffins, including three off five free position shot attempts. The Scarlet and Gold's non-free position goals were assisted on by freshman attackman Emily Abe (Hagerstown, Md.) and senior attackman Haley Norwillo (Duryea, Pa.).

Freshman goalie Mel Amador (Cape May, N.J.) tallied double-digit saves for the third time in four games this season, stopping 13 Spartans' shots on goal.
