Men's Soccer Wins First Game of Season as McIntyre Scores Twice

Three Senior Players Honored Prior to Start of Match

Andrey McIntyre scored twice and senior Miguel Marra added a goal on a penalty shot as the Chestnut Hill college Men's Soccer team earned their first win of the season, defeating Bloomfield College 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Victory field #1 in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins are now 1-10-3 overall and 1-6-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games while Bloomfield falls to 4-9-1 overall and 3-5 in league play.

Prior to the game the team and the Athletics Department honored three seniors on the men's soccer team who will be playing their final games for the Griffins in the next two weeks:  Mustaf Nuredini, a senior midfielder from Norristown, Pa.; Lucas de Sa, a graduate student forward from Bahia, Brazil and Miguel Marra, a graduate student forward from Ossinging, New York.

The game began following the senior day ceremony with both teams battling for momentum.  Chestnut Hill received that momentum boost when Evan Walters made a sliding defensive save in front of the net to prevent a Bloomfield score.    The Griffins followed with two header shots on net that were stopped before McIntyre put the Griffins on the board with his fifth goal of the season at the 18th minute mark.  Lucho Narcisi had the assist.

A little under three minutes later, Bloomfield tied the game at 1-1 where it would remain until the second half.  Bloomfield had their best chance at regaining the lead with a penalty kick in the 44th minute but Quincy Baal's shot was stopped by CHC goalkeeper Mahmoud Mahmoud, giving the Griffins momentum as the headed into the second half.

Marra put the Griffins back ahead in the 54th minute with a successful penalty kick conversion and three minutes later McIntyre also converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the game to boost the Griffins lead to 3-1 in the 57th minute.

The Bears got one back with a goal in the 69th minute, cutting the Griffins lead to 3-2 and continued to apply offensive pressure.  The Chestnut Hill men however were up for the task, limiting the Bloomfield offense to two shots that went wide and a third saved by Mahmoud in the 86th minute that nearly went in at the top of the net.  The Bears had two corner kicks following the shot on goal but the Griffins' defense held them without a shot as time wound down and Chestnut Hill secured their first win of 2021.

Mahmoud had two saves for the game.  Chestnut Hill outshot Bloomfield 15-10 (10-5 on goal)

The Chestnut Hill Men's Soccer Team is back in action on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 when they travel to Dominican College in Orangeburg, New York for the first of four remaining conference games.
