Olivia Medeiros scored two goals while
Abigail Galazka added one as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team got back on the winning track with a 3-1 win over Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon at victory Field #1 in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins improve to 6-6-1 overall and more importantly 4-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games. The win leaves Chestnut Hill in a three-way tie with Georgian Court University and Caldwell University for seventh place in the league standings with 12 points. Each team is 1-1 against each other and with Georgian Court yet to play first place Holy Family, tiebreakers are yet to be decided for the final two playoff spots.
Medeiros put the Griffins on the board early, converting a penalty kick at the 1:39 mark of the opening half for a 1-0 lead. Galazka added a penalty kick of her own in the 23
rd minutes giving Chestnut Hill a two-goal advantage. Three minutes later Bloomfield cut the deficit in half with a goal by Savanah Smith.
The score remained 2-1 until midway through the second half when Medeiros scored her second goal. While jumping up to possibly head a potential cross pass Medeiros received the cross from
Riley Regan and while still in mid-air put a shot past the Bloomfield goaltender for a 3-1 lead in the 70
th minute.
The Griffins defense held Bloomfield to just one shot the rest of the way as they closed the match for the victory. For the game, The Bears had just six total shots four of which were on-goal.
Bri Hewlett earned her sixth win of the season, stopping three of four shots on the afternoon.
The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team returns to action on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at noon when they host Post University for their final home game of the season. Kickoff is set for noon at Victory Field #1.
