The Chestnut Hill Women's Soccer team, playing in their final home game of the 2021 season, celebrated their seniors prior to the start of their Central Atlantic Collegiate conference (CACC) match against Post University. On the field, however there wasn't much to celebrate as Post came away with a 1-0 victory with a late second half goal.
The Griffins fall to 6-7-1 overall and 4-6 in CACC games. The Eagles improve to 6-8-1 and 5-5-1 in league play with the win. The loss also put a damper on any shot of making the CACC playoffs, although they have not been mathematically eliminated. A win in the Griffins final regular season game at Wilmington coupled by losses by Georgian Court University in their final regular season game would give Chestnut Hill and Georgian Court 15 points in league play and tie for the final playoff spot.
The six seniors honored Sunday have played a combined total of 248 games over the course of their careers, with two of them: forward
Maddie Jimenez and defender
Madison Taylor appearing in all 56 games for Chestnut Hill over the last four seasons. Taylor was also center-midfielder prior to switching to defense this season. Also honored were forward/midfielder
Zhanee Dimanche-Silva; defenders
Tayannis Torres, and
Alyssa Fournier and goalkeeper
Bri Hewlett.
On the field, the two teams played to a scoreless 0-0 tie in the first half with both teams getting off four shots with one shot on goal apiece.
The Post and Chestnut Hill defenses continued to work hard as the second half progressed, keeping the game scoreless. In the 86
th minute, Post earned a corner kick that resulted in an Eagles goal and a 1-0 lead. The Griffins added a shot on net in the 87
th minute but were unable to convert as the Eagles hung on to win.
Jimenez and
Lizzie Stokes had four shots apiece with three of Stokes' four shots on goal but saved by the Post goalkeeper. Jimenez had CHC's other shot on goal. For the game, the Eagles outshot the Griffins 14-9 (6-4 shots on goal).
Hewlett had five saves in goal for the Griffins.
