#10 Marauders Get Better of Griffins in 13-1 Final

Millersville, Pa. - (3/12/2021) – Chestnut Hill College continued a tough early-season slate this afternoon with a nine-inning affair at #10 Millersville University. The Marauders used an eight-run third inning to breakdown the Scarlet and Gold defense and propel themselves to a 13-1 win. Junior catcher Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) remained hot and recorded two of the Griffins' five hits (2-for-3, 1BB), but freshman right fielder R.J. Huth (Fairless Hills, Pa.) (1-for-1, RBI) knocked the only Chestnut Hill College run with an eighth-inning single to right field.

Millersville University (3-0) put together a walk and six hits in the third inning; the last hit was a two-out, three-run homerun over the left field fence, 8-0. Chestnut Hill College (2-2) looked to answer in the at-bats that followed, but only lost ground as the Marauders added a tally in each of the next five innings, 13-0. The Griffins had a chance to break through in the seventh inning, where a beaning of freshman right fielder Anthony Coombs (Bridgeton, N.J.), a wild pitch, a beaning of senior third baseman Thomas Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) (0-for-3), and a second wild pitch put runners on the corners. But two pop outs later, a Barletta walk loaded the bases only for an inning-ending ground out to third base. The Scarlet and Gold's run eventually came in the eighth inning; senior designated hitter Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) (0-for-3, 1R) led off the at-bat with a walk and he stole second base before scoring on Huth's single, 13-1.

Junior first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) (1-for-4) and Coombs (1-for-1) were responsible for the other two Chestnut Hill College hits.

Chestnut Hill College continues their non-conference play on Sunday, March 14, when they welcome Gannon University to Hostelley Field for a noon (12:00 p.m.) home-opening doubleheader.
