Griffins Score Another Late Goal, But Fall to Rams in CACC Affair

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (3/17/2021) – Chestnut Hill College resumed their 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) spring schedule with this afternoon's contest versus defending league champion, Thomas Jefferson University. The Rams wasted little time getting the upper hand on Chestnut Hill College as they netted three goals (3-0, 6:52) in the opening seven minutes, led the Griffins 5-0 at halftime, and recorded the league-win despite a late Scarlet and Gold connection between junior forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) and sophomore defender Josie Wilson (Mantua, N.J.) (89:18); 5-1.

Jefferson (1-0, 1-0) was on the scoreboard just 28 seconds (0:28) after kickoff as junior forward Kelsey Butler (Yardley, Pa.) scored the first Rams tally with a central drive and a blast to right corner, 1-0. The Rams added to their advantage at 4:36 (2-0) and 6:52 (3-0), before Chestnut Hill College (0-2, 0-2) slowed the attack. Unfortunately, Jefferson manage to break through twice more in the first half; increasing the margin to 4-0 at 15:22 and 5-0 (44:54) just before the halftime break.

Chestnut Hill College kept Jefferson off the scoreboard in the second half, despite a 15-4 shot deficit and a 5-0 corner kick edge. Meanwhile, the Griffins were able to create more offensive opportunities; it paid off late in the affair as Jimenez located an unmarked Wilson for a Scarlet and Gold score, 5-1 (89:18).

Junior midfielder Alessandra Distefano (Staten Island, N.Y.) directed Jefferson, offering four shots and an assist on the Rams' fourth tally (4-0, 15:22, Kochanski). In goal, sophomore Allie Bone (Cresco, Pa.) and senior Danielle Samson (Newtown, Pa.) split the 90 minutes and the Rams' two saves; Bone earned the win (1-0).

Jimenez recorded two of the Griffins' seven shots. The others were provided by Wilson, freshman midfielder Kayla Dougherty (Williamstown, N.J.), freshman defender Caitlin Geiger (Philadelphia, Pa.), senior midfielder Marisa Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.), and junior defender Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.). In goal, senior Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario) totaled 11 saves in the losing effort (0-2).

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, March 20, when they visit Georgian Court University for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
