Jimenez Goals Score First Win for Griffins and Geist

Lyndhurst, N.J. - (3/25/2021) – Chestnut Hill College scored their first win of their 2021 Spring Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season today as a pair of hard blasts from junior forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) (26:46, 84:48) carried the Scarlet and Gold to a 2-0 victory over Felician University. The win is the first for Head Coach Jonathan Geist, whose Griffins outshot the Golden Falcons 15-6 and a 5-2 corner kick advantage at the Lyndhurst Recreation Center this afternoon.

Chestnut Hill College (1-4, 1-4) controlled the contest from the opening kickoff with Jimenez fronting the Griffins' pressure on the Felician University (0-3, 0-3) defense. The Scarlet and Gold advances eventually overwhelmed the Golden Falcons as the first of Jimenez's drive glanced off the goalkeeper's fingertips before landing in the back of the net at 26:46, 1-0. Chestnut Hill College looked to added a second first-half goal with several late Jimenez strikes, but the home side was able to stall the Scarlet and Gold until the later frame.

But the Griffins offense did not quit with the changing of ends as Chestnut Hill College kept the ball in the Felician University backfield until the Scarlet and Gold some insurance with another long blast, 2-0 (84:48). The late score provided plenty of coverage for senior goalkeeper Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario), who made the only four saves she needed to in the shutout victory (1-4).

Sophomore midfielder Elisa Zuta (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Carlie Koziol (East Rutherford, N.J.) led Felician University with two shots apiece. In goal, freshman Alexis Lambertino (Hammonton, N.J.) recorded three saves in the loss (0-2).

Jimenez took eight of the Griffins' 15 shots. She received support with additional strikes from sophomore forward Riley Regan (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2 shots), junior midfielder Madison Taylor (Bensalem, N.J.) (2), junior midfielder Tayanis Torres (Villas, N.J.), freshman midfielder Kayla Dougherty (Williamstown, N.J.), and senior defender Josie Wilson (Mantua, N.J.).

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule one Sunday, March 28, when they meet Holy Family University at Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania's General Ronald K. Nelson Field for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
