Rees and Revak Highlight Griffins’ 15-12 Win Over Redhawks

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/27/2021) – The seniors, attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) (6 goals) and midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) (3 goals, 3 assists) recorded six points apiece, headlining a 15-12 Chestnut Hill College victory over Roberts Wesleyan College. The latter offered the game-winner with an early fourth-quarter tally (13-10, 13:34) that came on the man-up and highlighted a four-goal Griffin run that separated the Scarlet and Gold for victory. Revak also recorded a team-high four ground balls.

Chestnut Hill College (3-2) recorded the first goal of the game on an unassisted Revak goal (1-0, 12:57), but trailed Roberts Wesleyan College (2-1) to a narrow 8-7 halftime deficit. Faceoffs and turnovers were the tail; the Redhawks controlled the circle (14-of-17, .824), but the Griffin defense forced the visitors into 13 turnovers before intermission.

Afterwards, the Redhawks first extended their lead (9-7, 13:16), before the Scarlet and Gold put them in the review mirror with seven of the next eight tallies. The Chestnut Hill College run was initiated by an unassisted goal from junior attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) (9-8, 11:49), a game-tying goal from freshman attack Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.) (9-9, 3:51), and the first career goal for freshman defenseman Chase Snyder (Millsboro, Del.), 10-9 (3:22). Roberts Wesleyan College interrupted the run with 3:10 remaining in the third quarter, 10-10, but the Griffins scored twice more in the pivotal third quarter, sneaking in important tallies with clutch connections between senior midfielder Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) and Revak (11-10, 0:57) and sophomore midfielder Colby Seneca (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Rees, 12-10, 0:03. In the fourth quarter, Revak's eventual game-winner provided the weight Chestnut Hill College needed to shew the Redhawks away.

Senior attack Hunter Lemieux (Lockport, N.Y.) anchored Roberts Wesleyan College's efforts with two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. He got help from senior attack Matt Gademske (Buffalo, N.Y.) (3 goals, 1 assist), junior midfielder Michael Pierog (Georgetown, Ontario) (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 ground ball, 1 caused turnover), and sophomore attack Reid Jackowski (Syracuse, N.Y.) (3 assists). In the circle, senior Mitch Streety (Buffalo, N.Y.) won 17-of-29 (.586) and recovered 10 ground balls, while senior goalkeeper Pat Hynes (Irondequoit, N.Y.) recorded nine saves, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers in a losing effort (2-1).

Chestnut Hill College came together in the second half, using the performances of Revak and Rees as pacesetters to overcome the visiting Redhawks. Howell was a helper with two goals, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers, Melnick was a playmaker with two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover, and Wilden wowed with a goal, two assists, and a ground ball. In goal, junior goalkeeper Jake Miller (Castle Rock, Colo.) made 14 saves and recovered two ground balls in the win (3-2).

Chestnut Hill College plays next on Friday, April 2, when they visit #3 Mercyhurst University for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
