Late Jimenez Score Adds Drama To Season Opener with Caldwell University

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (3/9/2021) – Playing for the first time ever in March, Chestnut Hill College opened their 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) spring schedule with an evening contest versus Caldwell University. The Cougars scored a goal in each half, providing enough insurance to overcome a late opportunistic score from junior forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) (89:18); 2-1. Jimenez accounted for seven of the Griffins' 12 shots, while senior goalkeeper Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario) recorded seven saves in the loss (0-1).

An evenly played match shifted in the Caldwell University (1-0, 1-0) favor midway past the 32-minute mark as freshman forward Kasey McConnell (Shirley, N.Y.) found freshman defender Nicole Santos (Union, N.J.) with a left-to-right pass that resulted in a visitor goal at 32:21, 1-0. Despite the 11-5 shot advantage, Chestnut Hill College (0-1, 0-1) kept the Cougars off the scoreboard for the remainder of the opening frame.

In the second half, a loose cross from freshman midfielder Kayla Neves (Henryville, Pa.) gave Caldwell University their second scoring opportunity. This time, sophomore forward Sarah Costanza (Morris Plains, N.J.) was the benefactor, connecting for the visitor goal at 79:50 (2-0). That margin held until late in the contest, when a blocked shot from junior midfielder Madison Taylor (Bensalem, Pa.) fortuitously landed on Jimenez's oncoming foot; the result added some drama for the final 40 seconds, 2-1 (89:18), but it was not enough to sway the eventual conclusion.

Caldwell University totaled 20 shots with three Cougars recording at least four shots. Costanza was one of them. In goal, junior Jamie-Lee Bamford (Braintree, United Kingdom) earned the win (1-0) with four saves.

Taylor (2 shots), freshman midfielder Molly Killion (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1), freshman defender Caitlin Geiger (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1), and sophomore defender Josie Wilson (Mantua, N.J.) accounted for the additional Griffin shots.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, March 13, when they visit Felician University for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
