East Stroudsburg, Pa. - (4/13/2021) – Senior centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) homered in a pair of runs in the first inning of game one and junior shortstop Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, N.Y.) homered in the sixth inning of game two, but the long ball was not enough to defeat East Stroudsburg University today. The Warriors ended the first game early, 10-2 (5 innings) and won the second game by a 7-1 final. Horner finished the afternoon 3-for-6 with a run and two runs-batted-in (RBI), while Petroski went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
Chestnut Hill College (1-17) opened the afternoon with some fireworks as Petroski led off with a triple to right center and Horner followed after with her one-out, two-run home run, 2-0. Unfortunately, East Stroudsburg University (19-9) scored a run in the bottom of the first, 2-1, three runs in the bottom of the second, 4-2, four runs in the bottom of third, 8-2, and two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the affair early, 10-2. Junior catcher Gabrielle O'Byrne (Moorestown, N.J.) also singled in the Griffin half of the first inning. Horner recorded her second hit with a two-out double in the third inning.
In game two, Horner was left stranded after her two-out single in the first inning. The Griffins did not get another baserunner until Petroski's sixth-inning home run. By then it was too little, too late as the Warriors scored a run in the first inning, 1-0, four in the third inning, 5-0, one run in the fourth inning, 6-0, and another in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 7-1 win.
Chestnut Hill College returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday, April 17, when they visit Dominican College for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
