North Wales, Pa. - (4/14/2021) – Amidst a busy week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action, Chestnut Hill College welcomed the University of the Sciences (USciences) to Hostelley Field for today's nine-inning league affair. Each side scored a run through the first three innings, 1-1, but the Scarlet and Gold answered a second Devil run, 2-1, and broke the contest open in the bottom of the fourth inning with a series of hits batsmen, walks, and a grand slam from senior designated hitter Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.), 7-2. Meanwhile, junior Pat Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.) handed a solid four-inning start (4.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 6K) off to sophomore Dan Rockenbach (Holland, Pa.) (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K), who finished the contest for his third win (3-0) of the season, 10-5.
Chestnut Hill College (5-11, 2-7) got on the scoreboard first with a one-out walk to senior second baseman Patrick Meenan (Oreland, Pa.), a botched pickoff attempt, a wild pitch, and a ground out to the pitcher from freshman centerfielder R.J. Huth (Fairless Hills, Pa.), 1-0. USciences (2-6, 2-6) got the run back in the top of the third inning, 1-1, and took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, 2-1, before getting into trouble. Trouble came in the bottom of the frame with a lead off beaning of Meenan, a wild pitch, a walk to Huth, a beaning of freshman shortstop Nick Delacruz (South Brunswick, N.J.), another wild pitch, 2-2, walks to freshman second baseman Greg Sylvester (Trevose, Pa.) and freshman left fielder Zach Ahmed (Las Vegas, Nev.), 3-2, a pitching change, and drive over fence from Uzzell, 7-2.
From there, the Scarlet and Gold turned to Rockenbach to bring home the win. He did so, while only having difficulty in the sixth inning. There, the Devils cut the deficit to 7-5 with a three-run home run. Fortunately, sophomore right fielder Corbin Dunnuck (Mohnton, Pa.) grounded in a run in the bottom of the frame, 8-5, before Sylvester and Ahmed each batted-in seventh inning runs to help Chestnut Hill College to the 10-5 victory.
Uzzell (2-for-4, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 SB) and Ahmed (2-for-3, BB, 1 R, 2 RBI) capped the Chestnut Hill College lineup with two hits apiece. The former, Meenan, Huth, and Sylvester all scored twice.
Chestnut Hill College continues a busy week of CACC competition on Friday, April 16, when they host Caldwell University in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
