Scarlet and Gold Scores 4-3 CACC Semifinal Victory Over Devils

Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/23/2021) – Freshman Annika Wise treated the intimate crowd that gathered at the Chestnut Hill College Tennis Courts with a thrilling 7-6 (5), 7-5, number three singles win that sealed a 4-3 triumph in today's 2021 Spring Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Semifinal. #3 University of the Sciences (USciences) won the doubles point from #2 Chestnut Hill College with wins in the first (6-0) and third (6-2) team flights. But, the Griffins proved their worth in singles as individual victories from sophomore Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain) (#1; 6-4, 6-1), freshman Lottie Allin (Darby, England) (#4; 6-4, 6-3), freshman Nele Haag (Tauberbischofsheim, Germany) (#2; 0-6, 6-4, 6-1), and Wise. The Scarlet and Gold advances to the 2021 Spring CACC Women's Tennis Championship to face #1 Concordia College for the league crown; the title match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 25.

USciences (5-4) took the early advantage from Chestnut Hill College (5-5), winning number one doubles by a 6-0 margin and number three doubles by a 6-2 margin. As play moved to singles, the Devils added to their lead with a 6-1, 6-0, win at number six, 2-0. Garcia Arguelles provided the stopper for the Scarlet and Gold, stemming the USciences run with her 6-4, 6-1, win in the top individual flight, 2-1. The Devils hoped to salvage their momentum with a 6-2, 6-2, win at number five singles, 3-1, but the Griffins ran the table, coming from behind with wins in the fourth, second, and third flights.
 
The semifinal victory earns Chestnut Hill College their first CACC Championship appearance since 2015 and marks the fourth time in eight seasons that the Griffins and Clippers have met in the title match.
