Orangeburg, N.Y. – (4/24/2021) – Riding high off Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins over Georgian Court University (W, 13-7 on April 20) and Wilmington University (W, 12-8 on April 22), Chestnut Hill College doubled the output of Dominican College in today's league contest, 22-11. The Griffins led 14-3 at halftime, making good use a 29-11 first-half shot advantage and a 15-of-19 (.789) success rate on the faceoff. The Wildcats played it closer in the second half, but late efforts were not enough to derail the Scarlet and Gold victory.
Chestnut Hill College (7-2, 4-0) opened the contest with a three-goal run, the last of which marked the 100th career point for senior midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.), 3-0 (10:58). Dominican College (1-3, 1-2) broke the streak just past the 10-minute mark, 3-1 (9:54), but the Charger tally was just an interruption to the Scarlet and Gold game plan as the Griffins scored three more times before the end of the first frame, 6-1 (4:44), and outproduced Dominican College 8-2 in the second, 14-3 (0:09). The third quarter saw Chestnut Hill College extend their lead to 17-3 (10:21) before a late Charger push evened out frame, 19-6, and reduced the final deficit to 11 goals; 22-11.
Sophomore attack Luke Martini (Abington, Mass.) led Dominican College with three goals on 13 shots, and nine ground balls. Three other Chargers recorded at least two goals; sophomore attack Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was chief among them with two goals, two assists, and a ground ball. Freshman goalkeeper Steffen Peabody (Brookhaven, N.Y) recorded six saves and a ground ball in the loss (1-3).
Senior attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) lead Chestnut Hill College with six goals on eight shots; he also totaled three ground balls and three caused turnovers. He got plenty of help from sophomore attack Nate Matthews (Rancho Murrieta, Calif.) and freshman attack Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.), who both offered six points to the Griffins' success. Matthews totaled two goals, four assists, and a ground balls, while Melnick registered three goals, three assists, and two ground balls.
Revak finished with three points (2 goals, 1 assist), but his milestone was not the only one for the Scarlet and Gold as graduate Zachary Ornstein (Howell, N.J.) recorded his 100th ground ball as a Griffin with his final loose-ball recovery of the contest (1:35, 2nd). He finished the contest with seven ground balls and a 14-of-17 (.824) success rate on the draw. Junior Jake Miller (Castle Rock, Colo.) earned the win (6-2) with five saves, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in the opening 36:25.
