Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/29/2021) – Chestnut Hill College scored three runs in both games of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Thomas Jefferson University (Jefferson), but the Rams proved to be the stronger side with consecutive run-shortened wins of 14-3 (5 innings) and 11-3 (6). Senior centerfielder Taylor Carter (Fort Washington, Pa.) recorded the Griffins' only run-batted-in (RBI) of the first game and senior third baseman Nadine Arredondo (Stephenville, Texas) brought home a pair of Scarlet and Gold runs in game two with a first-inning fielder's choice and a third-inning, solo home run.
Jefferson (16-8, 16-8) scored six runs in their first two at-bats of today's twin bill, 6-0. In the top of the third inning, Chestnut Hill College (1-23, 1-19) got a pair of runs back with a leadoff walk to junior catcher Victoria Grillo (Staten Island, N.Y.), a sacrifice from junior shortstop Haley Cooper (Hamilton, Va.), an infield single from junior left fielder Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, N.J.), a double steal (6-2), and back-to-back singles from sophomore second baseman Samantha Toro (Brick, N.J.) and Carter, 6-2. Unfortunately, the Rams scored six runs in the bottom of the frame, 12-2, and two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead the Griffins 14-2, before Petroski's fifth-inning, leadoff triple and hustle home; 14-3.
Petroski was 3-for-3 with two runs. Carter (1-for-3, RBI), Toro (1-for-3), Grillo (1-for-1, 1 R), and junior right fielder Gabrielle O'Byrne (Moorestown, N.J.) (1-for-3) accounted for the other Chestnut Hill College hits.
In game two, the Scarlet and Gold was first on the scoreboard with a string of one-out singles and Arredondo's fielder's choice delivering two runs in the top of the first inning, 2-0. Jefferson evened the score in the bottom of the second inning, 2-2, only for Arredondo to homer in the top of the third inning, 3-2. Unfortunately, that was the last lead the Griffins would hold as the Rams responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame, 6-3, four runs in the fourth inning, 10-3, and one more to end the contest after five innings, 11-3.
Petroski recorded two more hits (2-for-3) in the second game. Toro (1-for-3, R), Carter (1-for-3, R), O'Byrne (1-for-3, RBI), and sophomore second baseman Emma Peterson (Reading, Pa.) (1-for-3) were responsible for the other Chestnut Hill College hits.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, May 1, when they visit Bloomfield College for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
