Dietz Delivers as Griffins’ Streak Runs to Eight Wins with CACC Wins Over Eagles

North Wales, Pa. - (4/30/2021) – Chestnut Hill College scored two more Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins today, making it eight in a row with wins of 9-4 and 18-2 over Post University. Junior first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) backed up a strong start in the opener; W, 6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 9 K, with a 2-for-4 effort that included a double in the first inning and a two-run single in the second. Game two's offensive explosion saw the Griffins score 15 runs before Dietz, sophomore right fielder Corbin Dunnuck (Mohnton, Pa.), and freshman pinch hitter Nick Delacruz (South Brunswick, N.J.) went back-to-back-to-back on the first six pitches of the bottom of the sixth inning.

Walks, wild pitches, and good old aggressive base running helped Chestnut Hill College (15-12, 12-8) score five runs in the first inning of game two, 5-0. After Post University (1-13, 1-13) scored two runs in the top of the third inning, 5-2, the Scarlet and Gold added three runs in the bottom of the third, 8-2, seven runs in the fourth, 15-2, and the three solo shots in the sixth. All the while, the Griffin pitching staff stymied the Eagles. Junior Thomas Hughes (Phoenixville, Pa.) earned his third win (3-2) of the season, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out four in the first four innings (4.0 IP). Afterwards, senior Zach Szumigala (Fairless Hills, Pa.) (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K), sophomore Brian Egolf (Philadelphia, Pa.) (0.2, 1 K), and graduate Jarret Patman (Levittown, Pa.) (0.1, 1 H) took care of the rest.

In the opener, the Griffins scored three runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a leadoff single from senior left fielder Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.), a Dietz double to right center, a walk to Dunnuck, and a series of walks and hit batsman, 3-0. Dietz helped himself to a 5-0 advantage with his second-inning, two-run single. He then struck out seven Eagles before, during, and after, allowing three runs in the fifth inning. Meanwhile, Chestnut Hill College scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, 6-0, and three in the sixth inning, 9-3, to overshadow Post University's seventh-inning score, 9-4.

Dietz struck out nine Eagles in his second win (2-2) of the season. In addition to Dietz, Uzzell (2-for-4, 2 R, SB) and junior catcher Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) (2-for-3, HR, 2 R, RBI) also recorded two hits in the Griffin win.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Monday, May 3, when they visit South Division rival, Wilmington for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
