Peterson Homer Makes Game Two Tight, But Golden Falcons Take CACC Twin Bill

Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/5/2021) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed Felician University to campus for today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. The Golden Falcons took both ends of the twin bill, the opener 10-1 in six innings and the second by an 8-6 measure. Senior centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) doubled in the Griffins' only run of the first game, while sophomore first baseman Emma Peterson (Reading, Pa.) made the final three outs of the second game even more important with her seventh-inning, three-run home run. Junior shortstop/pitcher Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, Pa.) (3-for-4, 2BB) and senior right fielder Megan Jankiewicz (Clearwater, Fla.) (3-for-5, BB) each recorded three hits in the doubleheader.

Felician University (5-11, 5-5) had four runs on the scoreboard before Chestnut Hill College (0-10, 0-8) came to bat in the bottom of the third inning, 4-0. There, junior catcher Victoria Grillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) was beaned, advanced second base on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out, before scoring the Griffins' only run of the opener on Horner's double to left center, 4-1. The Golden Falcons added to their lead in the fourth, 5-1, and fifth innings, 7-1, before ending it earlier with three runs in the sixth inning.

Horner (1-for-3, RBI), Petroski (1-for-1), Jankiewicz (1-for-2), freshman second baseman Peyton Baldwin (Conshohocken, Pa.) (1-for-3), and senior pitcher Taylor Carter (Fort Washington, Pa.) (1-for-3) each recorded a hit for the Scarlet and Gold.

Felician University also owned a four-run lead before Chestnut Hill College got on the scoreboard in game two, 4-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Griffins got two of those tallies back with a one-out, two-run home run from senior third baseman Nadine Arredondo (Stephenville, Texas), 4-2. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Scarlet and Gold would get until Peterson's seventh-inning smash. There, Carter led off the Griffins' last scheduled at-bat with a single to left field. She reached second on a misplayed fielder's choice and scored along with Grillo and Peterson before the Golden Falcons even recorded an out, 8-6. Rattled, but not ruined, Felician University recorded those final three outs with a foul fly to left, a grounder to third, and a pop out to third.

Petroski (2-for-3), junior catcher Gabrielle O'Byrne (Moorestown, N.J.) (2-for-4, 2R), and Jankiewicz (2-for-3) each recorded two hits for Chestnut Hill College.

Chestnut Hill College returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 6, as they visit Wilmington University for a 2:30 p.m. CACC doubleheader.
