Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/2/2021) - Senior forward
Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) hoped to put Chestnut Hill College on the scoreboard in the second half of tonight's season opener versus Shepherd University. But her deflected shots landed on the oncoming foot of fellow senior forward
Olivia Medeiros (Bristol, R.I.) who sent it to the back of the net during the 63rd minute (2-1, 62:35 ASST: Jimenez). Unfortunately, Shepherd University controlled the ball for a majority of the remaining clock and added a 71st-minute insurance tally (3-1, 70:25, GOAL: Hohn, ASST: Striebig) to upset the Griffins by a 3-1 final.
Shepherd University (1-0) scored the first goal of the contest just past the 20-minute mark (20:23) as a free kick from junior forward Sara Hohn (Frederick, Md.) was sent back out before she served to the head of sophomore defender Brooke Bennett (Mt. Airy, Md.), 1-0.
Not long after halftime (51:27), a loose ball in the Chestnut Hill College (0-1) backfield was run down and sent in by sophomore midfielder Paris Kimbrell (Martinsburg, W.Va.), 2-0.
The Scarlet and Gold struck back at 62:35, as a determined Jimenez drive ended in a Medeiros put-back that cut the the Ram lead to 2-1.
Unfortunately, Shepherd University ended any hope of a Griffin comeback in the 71st minute (70:25, ASST: Striebig) as Hohn pushed her point total to three with a breakaway score that pushed the visitors ahead for good, 3-1.
Chestnut Hill College looks to even thier record on Wednesday, September 8, when they welcome Queens College to Victory Field for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.Â
