Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/8/2021) - Sophomore defender
Caitlin Geiger (Philadelphia, Pa.) approached a 40-yard free kick with confidence and struck it to the back of the Queens College (0-0-1) goal late in the 39th minute (1-0, 38:47). Unfortunately, a Chestnut Hill College (0-1-1) foul in the box gave the Knights a successful free kick of their own midway through the 57th minute (1-1, 56:30). Neither side scored in the remainder of regulation, precipitating overtime play. There the Griffins looked to play the ball to senior forwards
Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) and
Olivia Medeiros (Bristol, R.I.), but ran out of time in an eventual 1-1 double overtime tie.
The Knights were the aggressor off the openiong kickoff, testing senior goalkeeper
Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.) early in the affair. But the Scarlet and Gold keeper was up to the challenge as she stopped four saves in the first 16 minutes (16:04) and finishing the contest with a career-high 11 saves. Geiger led Chestnut Hill College with five shots. Jimenez offered four and Medeiros attempted two.
Chestnut Hill College continues their early season, non-conference schedule on Saturday, September 11, when they visit Roberts Wesleyan College for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
