Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Rally Falls Short as Griffins Lose by One to Post, 75-74.

A last second shot by the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team fell short as the Griffins nearly came all the way back from a double-digit deficit in the second half before bowing to Post University 75-74 Saturday afternoon at the Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins fall to 9-7 overall with the loss and 6-2 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference (CACC) games.  Post improves to 10-6 overall and 6-0 in league play as they remain in first place in the CACC North Division.

The Griffins put five players in double figures led by Amir Warrick and Nigel Haughton who scored 16 points apiece.  Trevonn Pitts added 14 points and MJ Iraldi came off the bench to score 11.  Iraldi also had a game-high 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.  James Rider IV added ten points to round out CHC's double figure scorers.

Trailing by as many as 18 in the second half, the Griffins slowly began to chip away at the eagles' lead as the half went on. Post still maintained a 15-point advantage midway through the half when the Griffins produced a 13-0 uprising to turn the game into a game of possessions.    Warrick started the run with a layup-and-one and two minutes later Iraldi converted his own traditional three-point play cut the lead to single digits 68-60.  Two free throws by Pitts, and another layup by Iraldi closed the gap even more and when Haughton sank two free throws with 5:54 left, it was a one-possession game with the Griffins trailing 68-66.  Twice in the final; three minutes the Griffins closed the gap to one with Warrick's jumper with 1:18 left making the score 75-74.  A missed one-and-one opportunity by the Eagles gave the Griffins one last chance with 11 seconds left but Warrick's short came up short as time expired.

It was all Eagles in the first half as they opened the game with an 11-3 run.  David Erebor's layup at the 10:43 mark pulled the Griffins within three 18-15, but a 9-1 run by Post pushed their lead to double digits 29-16. The Eagles outscored the Griffins 13-6 over the final six minutes to take a 16-point lead at the half 47-31.
Isaiah Holmes led the Eagles with 19 points while David Jasson added 16.  DJ Frechette was the third Post player in double figures with 13 points.  Devonte McCall led the team with seven rebounds.

The Griffins held Post to just 36.7% (11-30) shooting in the second half following a 54.1% first half effort.  The Griffins meanwhile shot 51.6% in the second half (16-31) and finished the game shooting 48.3%.  Chestnut Hill held a big advantage on the free throw line, making 13 of 19 while Post went to the line for just six free throws (making three).  Post doubled up the Griffins on three-point baskets (10-5).

The Chestnut Hill Men's Basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 when they host Holy Family University at Sorgenti Arena.  Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
