Jason Barragan's goal late in the second half was the only score of the game by the Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team against Goldey-Beacom College Wednesday afternoon as the Griffins and the Lightning played to a 1-1 tie at NCS field in Wilmington, Delaware.
The Griffins improve to 2-8-4 overall and 1-4-3 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games with the tie. The Lightning are now 0-12-1 overall and 0-6-1 in league play.
The two teams played a scoreless first half with the griffins getting off three shots on goal to the Lightning's one despite six corner kicks from the hosts.
The score remained tied until the 79
th minute when Barragan found the top right corner of the net off a free kick from 20 yards out to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. The lead however was short lived as the Lightning struck with the game tying goal just 1:38 later off a header from GBC's Patrick Short which went into the top left side of the net to even the score at 1-1.
The two teams managed one shot apiece in the final five minutes, both off target and wide or high as the game ended deadlocked at 1-1.
Eran Shrifis made two saves ni goal for the Griffins, facing just three shots on goal on the afternoon. The Griffins meanwhile had eight shots on goal in the game with
Juan Ortiz getting half of them and
Evan Walters hitting two. Chestnut Hill outshot Goldey-Beacom 15-13 overall.
The Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 15, 2022 with a key conference matchup at Post University.
