Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late goal by Medeiros Lifts Griffins to Win over Rams and Clinches Playoff Spot

Olivia Medeiros scored in 71st minute to lift the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team to a 3-2 win over area rival Jefferson University Wednesday night.

With the win, the Griffins clinch a playoff spot for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, their first since the 2012 season.  They improve to 8-4-3 overall and 5-2-3 in CACC games.   Jefferson suffers their first conference loss of the season and falls to 8-1-1 in league play and 10-4-1 overall.  It was the Griffins first win over the Rams since the 2017 season.

With the game tied at 2-2, Medeiros made a cross pass to Virginia Perry who drove in on the right side and then passed it back to Medeiros who shot the ball past Jefferson goalkeeper Liv Riddel off the right post and into the net for the go-ahead score.

Just two minutes earlier the Rams tied the score at 2-2 when Jefferson's Nikki Dedes place a kick into the net to the left of Griffin goalkeeper Kaitlyn Carter for the equalizing goal.

Madeline Jimenez had given the Griffins a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute as Medieros shuffled the ball to her following a corner kick.  The goal was Jimenez's team leading 11th score of the season.

Rebecca Dalton got the Griffins on the board in the first half heading a free kick from Lauren Sullivan past Riddel for a 1-0 lead at the 14:08 mark.

Carter meanwhile recorded a career-high 12 saves to record her eighth win of the season.  The Griffins back line of defense, Maddie Camillo, Elizabeth Deal, Molly Killion and Kaitlyn Brace also stopped several attacks by the Rams before they got to the goaltender.

Jefferson outshot the Griffins 21-5 overall and 14-4 shots on goal.

The Chestnut Hill College Women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday when they travel to play Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
