Georgian Court University scored two second half goals as they handed the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team their first home conference loss of the season, 2-1 Tuesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania. The game was Chestnut Hill's regular season finale.
The loss, the Griffins first conference defeat at Victory Field this season after compiling a 4-0-1 conference record on their home pitch, gives the Griffins a final regular season record of 8-5-4 overall and 5-3-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Georgian Court finishes the season with a 4-7-7 record and a 3-5-4 conference record.
The loss also drops the Griffins to the #6 seed for the upcoming CACC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Chestnut Hill will travel to #3 seed Post University for the first round of the tournament on Monday, October 31, 2022.
After a scoreless first half and a scoreless first 15 minutes of the second half, the Lions scored twice within a four-minute period to take a 2-0 lead in the 65
th minute. The Griffins did not get on the board until the 75
th minute when
Rebecca Dalton headed in a free kick taken by
Lauren Sullivan from the left side of the field making the score 2-1.
The Griffins continued to put the pressure on in the final 15 minutes but managed just one shot on goal, in the 81
st minute by
Olivia Medeiros as the Lions hung on for the win.
CHC goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Carter had five saves on the night in the losing effort. Lions goalkeeper Alyssa Dias earned the win and had three saves.
The Women's Soccer team returns to action for the first round of the CACC Playoffs and will play at Post University on Monday, October 31, 2022.
