Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Deal's First Collegiate Goal Gives Griffins a 3-2 CACC Quarterfinal Win over Post

Sophomore defender Elizabeth Deal picked a great time to score her first collegiate goal, as she broke a 2-2 tie with just under ten minutes remaining as the sixth seeded Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team upset third seed Post University 3-2 Monday afternoon in the Central Atlantic collegiate conference Championship Tournament quarterfinals at Post's LaMoy field in Waterbury, Connecticut

The Griffins now advance to Friday's CACC Semi-finals where they will take on #7 seed Caldwell University, a 2-1 upset winner of #2 seed Jefferson.  All semi-final games will take place at Holy Family University.  The win was their first CACC Tournament victory since defeating Dominican College 2-0 in the CACC quarterfinals in 2010.

Chestnut Hill is now 9-5-4.  Post ends their season at 9-9-1.

With the score tied at 2-2 heading into the 80th minute, the Griffins brought the ball upfield into the attack zone and a shot from Rachel Apsley was blocked, resulting in a corner kick. Virginia Perry's kick went to Deal who put a shot past Post goalkeeper Imelda Lazaro for the go-ahead score.  It was Deal's first collegiate goal.

Post had just one more shot on net in the final ten minutes, easily stopped by Griffins' goalkeeper Kaitlyn Carter to help preserve the win.

Things did not look so rosy for the Griffins in the early going as the Eagles jumped on board with a goal just 93 seconds into the game and continued to force the pace of play in the contest. Two-time first Team All-CACC forward Madeline Jimenez got the Griffins back on track with the equalizer at the 12:04 mark for her 12th goal of the season, the most by a Griffins player since Carly DiGiovanni had 16 in 2012.

In the 27th minute The Griffins had the ball in the attack zone and Lizzie Stokes launched a kick towards the net from the left side of the field just outside the box which found the foot of Olivia Medeiros who was stationed in front of the net along with a couple of Griffin attackers.  She tapped the ball in for the goal, her third of the season and a 2-1 Griffins lead.

Post's Hailey McGee tied the game at 2-2 with a penalty kick in the 41syt minute after the Griffins were called for a handball in the box.  The score remained tied until Deal's heroics in the 80th minute.

Carter finished the game with 11 saves, giving her a league leading 120 and upping her save percentage to 80% (third best in the league), earning her ninth win of the season (tied for 2nd in the CACC).

The Griffins will face Caldwell University on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Holy Family University's Tiger Field.
