Madeline Jimenez made the final kick of the shootout as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship game for the first time in their program history defeating Caldwell University by winning the shootout 3-1 after playing to a 0-0 tie through two overtimes in the CACC Semi-final game.
The Griffins are now 9-5-5 and will play top seed University of Bridgeport, also a winner via the shootout, on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Tiger Field on the campus of Holy Family University.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in regulation and in the additional two overtimes, forcing the shootout to determine who would advance to the championship
Both teams missed their first attempt before
Lauren Sullivan got the Griffins on the board with a kick into the upper left corner of the net. Caldwell's next kicker shot the ball wide, opening the door for the Griffins to expand their lead.Â
Elizabeth Deal's kick went past Caldwell goalkeeper Ariana Gaminara into the right corner for a 2-0 lead. Caldwell's Nicole Alfano's kick was stopped by Griffin's 'keeper
Kaitlyn Carter and
Rebecca Dalton's shot was stopped by Gaminara keeping the Griffins' lead at 2-0.
Brianna Lewis' kick went off the hands of Carter into the net to cut the lead to 2-1, bringing up Jimenez, the Griffins final shooter with a chance to give the Griffins the win. She promptly put a shot into the upper left portion of the net just above the right shoulder of Gaminara for the game-winner.
Carter had seven saves in the 110 minutes of action. Caldwell outshot the Griffins 19-15 with CHC landing four shots on net, two from
Rachel Apsley and one each from Dalton and Jimenez. Caldwell had three corner kicks in the match while the Griffins had one.
