Griffins Lose 3-2 to Raiders on Late Goal

A late goal by Shippensburg University handed the Chestnut Hill College Men's soccer team a 3-2 loss Monday evening at victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pa.

The Griffins fall to 1-7-3 overall while Shippensburg improves to 3-4-2.

It was Chestnut Hill who got on the board first with a goal just 3:42 into the contest.  Robert Sparrow took a cross pass from Jaime Arrola and put it into the net for his first goal as a Griffin and a 1-0 lead for the home team.

Meanwhile the Griffins defense was holding Shippensburg to just three total shots in the half, only one of which was on net as they carried the 1-0 lead into the second half.

The Raiders tied the game up almost immediately as a defensive lapse by the Griffins in front of their net led to a Raider goal just 13 seconds into the period.  The score remained tied at 1-1 until Terrance Doe forwarded the ball to Timothy Kane who got a shot past the Raider keeper Matt Riley in the 52nd minute, giving the Griffins a 2-1 lead.  The goal was Kane's first as a collegian.

Four minutes later the Raiders again tied the game at 2-2 where it remained until the 85th minute when SU's Omario Duncan got a shot past Griffin goalkeeper Eran Shifris from the left side to give the Raiders their first lead of the game at 3-2.   Shippensburg held of the Griffins attack in the final four+ minutes to secure the win.

Shrifis took the loss and finished the game with four saves on the night.  The Griffins defense held Shippensburg to just seven shots on goal but the Raider defense was equally stingy as the Griffins placed just four shots on net with Jason Barragan and Arrola getting the other two in addition to the CHC goals.

The Men's Soccer team will host the College of Staten Island on Wednesday night at victory field.  Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
