Juan Ortiz had his second two-goal game of the season but that was all the offense the Chestnut Hill college Men's soccer team could muster as the fell to Caldwell University 3-2 Saturday afternoon at victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins fall to 2-8-3 overall and 1-42 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. Caldwell improves to 3-6-2 overall and 2-2-2 in league play.
Ortiz opened the scoring just ten minutes into the game, taking a pass from
Juan Molina and finding the back of the net for a 1-0 Griffins lead.
The Cougars roared back with three unanswered goals before the half ended, tying the game at 1-1 at the 15:13 mark and taking the lead at the 19:34 mark. Both goals were scored by Israel Del Santos Neto. The Cougars' third goal came at the 32:51 mark.
The two teams peppered the others goal area with shots in the second half with the Griffins firing 13 shots (six on goal) and the Cougars firing seven shots (five on goal) with neither team scoring until Ortiz scored on a penalty kick in the 87
th minute to make the score 3-2.
The Griffins had two more shots before the game ended, one of which landed on net but could not convert to tie the game.
Stephen Connor finished the game with seven saves for the Griffins
For the game, the Griffins outshot the Cougars 21-14 (12-10 on goal) while the Cougars recorded eight corner kicks to CHC's six.
The Chestnut Hill college men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 for a 3:30 PM kickoff at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.
