The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team received scoring contributions from their entire lineup as they cruised to an 86-45 season opening win against Queens College Saturday evening at the ECC-CACC Conference Challenge held at Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Every player on the Griffins squad played at least ten minutes with all 13 of them getting into the scoring column.Â
Emily Chmiel led all scored with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field.Â
Morgan Orloski came off the bench to score 11 (4-7 FG, 2-4 3FG).Â
Morgan Sterner added nine points while
Sara Tamoun was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field with two three-point baskets for a total of eight points in her collegiate debut.
Abbey Spratt (7 points) led the team with five assists while
Bri Hewlett added four. Rebounding-wise
Emily Sekerak grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Orloski had three steals.
Queens scored the first two points of the game on a pair of free throws from Chelsea Reeves before
Siobhan Boylan sank the first of ten total three-point baskets by the Griffins to take the early 3-2 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. Both teams exchanged baskets before the Griffins took command with an 18-3 uprising, scoring eight points off Knights' turnovers to take a 23-7 lead with just over a minute left in the quarter. Both teams again exchanged baskets before the end of the quarter and the Griffins led 25-9.
A 21-8 second quarter by Chestnut Hill put the Griffins firmly in control 46-17 at halftime.  Queens came out and held the Griffins to just five field goals in the third quarter, but the Griffins were able to add a couple of points to their lead from making eight of ten free throws and led 65-34 heading into the final period
Tamoun scored six of her eight points in the fourth quarter while Sterner made both of her shots from the field for five of her nine points as the Griffins outscored the Knights 21-11 to complete the 86-45 win.
For the game the Griffins shot 52.5% (32-61) from the field while holding the Knights to 34.6% (18-52) shooting.  Chestnut Hill made 10 of 23 shots from three-point range while Queens missed all four of their three-point attempts. The Griffins also held the edge on the glass, outrebounding the Knights 40-30.
The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team returns to action on Sunday, November 13, 2022, when they played Molloy university in the second game of the ECC-CACC conference challenge. Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
