The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team placed three players in double figures but could not overcome the outside shooting effort of host Assumption University who drained 12 three-point baskets en route to an 85-65 win over the Griffins Saturday night in the final game of the NE10-CACC conference Challenge in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Griffins fell to 0-2 with the loss while the Greyhounds improved to 2-0.
Amir Warrick led Chestnut Hill with 20 points (9-14 FG).
MJ Iraldi and
Nigel Haughton had 13 points apiece. Iraldi and
Conor Regan led the team with seven rebounds apiece while Iraldi also dished out a team-high three assists.
Regan scored the first points of the game, a three-point basket before the Greyhounds scored the next 11 to take an 11-3 lead. Jumpers by Iraldi and Haughton cut the lead in half and started an 11-6 spurt that pulled the Griffins within three 17-14.
Assumption followed with a 12-4 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game 29-18 with 8:52 left. After a layup from
Lucas Dunn, the Greyhounds ran off nine straight points to lead 38-20 with 3:48 left.
James Rider broke the run with a pair of free throws and twice in the final 2:30 the Griffins closed within 14 before a basket by Assumption gave the hosts a 43-27 lead at the half.

In the second half, Assumption's lead oscillated between 10 and 16 points and the Greyhound still led by 14, 58-44 with 13:49 left when the Griffins went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead in half 58-51 at the 12:22 mark. Another three-ball from Assumption put the lead back up to ten 61-51. The Griffins would come no closer than eight points the rest of they way, trailing 64-56 with nine minutes left following a Warrick basket. The Greyhounds scored the next eight points and kept the double-digit lead for the remaining up the game, expanding it to as many as 22 late in the game.
The Griffins shot 38.2% for the game (26-68) while the Greyhounds shot 47.9% (34-71) including a 12-30 (40%) effort from three-point range. Chestnut Hill took just 14 three-point shots, making five (35.7%). For the second game this season, the Griffins outrebounded their opponent, 42-39.
The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team returns to action when they travel to face Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
