Griffins Fall to Rams in conference Opener

Jefferson University opened up a double-digit lead early as the handed the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team a 99-63 loss Wednesday evening at the Herb Magee Arena in Philadelphia.

The game was the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener for both squads.  The Rams improve to 4-3 overall, 1-0 in league play.  The Griffins fall to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in CACC games.

Conor Regan led three Griffins in double figures with 17 points (6-12FG) while Amir Warrick added 14 (6-10 FG).  Trevonn Pitts came off the bench to score 13 points and had a team-high five rebounds.  Noah Charles and Lucas Dunn had three assists apiece.

The Rams came out on fire in the first half, shooting 64.3% (18-28) from the field and used a 16-4 run midway through the period to turn a two-possession game into a 17-point lead 32-15 with 7:28 left.  Baskets from Lucas Dunn and Conor Regan cut the lead to 13, 32-19.  The Rams followed with a 10-5 run to take their biggest lead of the half at 42-24 with 4:15 left with the Griffins pulling within 14, 44-30 with 1:53 left.  The Rams scored the final four points of the half to lead 48-30 at the break.

Jefferson's Erik Timko scored the first eight points for the Rams as they built their lead to 24, 56-32 just 1:45 into the final period. The Rams extended the lead to as many as 38 in the final minute of play before Pitts drove the lane for a layup to make the final score 99-63.

Timko finished the game with 35 points (14-16 FG, 7-8 3FG) to lead all scorers. Antonin Kemkeng added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Rams finished the game shooting 62.7% from the field (37-59) while the Griffins shot 39.3% (24-61).  Jefferson also connected on 14 three-point shots (out of 28) while Chestnut Hill made just two.  The Rams held a 39-29 rebound advantage.

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 3, 2022 when they host Wilmington University.  Tipoff at Sorgenti Arena is set for 3:00 p.m.
