Zyier Pannell scored three touchdowns and tied three school records as the Chestnut Hill College football team closed out their season with a 40-31 loss at Alderson-Broaddus University Saturday afternoon.

The 31 points scored was the Griffins highest scoring output of the season.  Pannell tied school records for most touchdowns scored in a game (3), most points scored in a game (18) and most rushing touchdowns in a singles game (2).

C.J. Small threw for 161 yards (15-39) and one touchdown while Anthony Cancellaire had 66 yards (7-16) passing and a touchdown.    Pannell led the team with 66 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns while Miles Coates had six catches for 45 yards to pace the Griffins.

On the defensive end Lex Williams led the team with 12 tackles with 1.5 for loss.  Larry Fonville added nine while Jerry Clark had eight.  D.J. Francis had the Griffins only sack of the afternoon.

The Battlers jumped out 10-0 lead after the first quarter and added another touchdown to lead 17-0 before the Griffins got on the board with 5:34 left in the half.  Xavier Hendricks caught a short three-yard throw from Cancellaire to complete a 10-play 55-yard drive.  Hendricks added the extra point to make the score 17-7.  Nasir Cooke added a 27-yard field goal with 22 seconds left in the half to pull the Griffins within a touchdown 17-10 at halftime.

A-B scored on their first two possessions of the third quarter and increased their lead to 27-10, where it stood heading into the final quarter.

The Griffins scored 21 points in the fourth quarter with Pannell getting all three scores.   His first touchdown came on an eight-yard run with 13:38 left with Hendricks making the point-after to bring the Griffins within ten 27-17.  On Chestnut Hill's next possession, Small found Pannell open for a six-yard touchdown catch with Hendricks again making the extra point and the Griffins were within three 27-24 with 9:10 left.

The Battlers struck again on their next possession to go back up by ten 34-24 before Pannell scored his final touchdown of the day – a five yard run with 6:23 left to make the score 34-31.  A-B had their final score with 4:48 left to go up by nine 40-31.

Chestnut Hill began their next drive at midfield and drove 45 yards to get into the red zone but eventually turned the ball over on downs with just 1:58 left.  The Battlers essentially were able to run out the clock and secure the win.

The Griffins finish the season at 0-7.
