Felician Ends Griffins Season with 93-90 decision in CACC Quarterfinals

Four players reached double figures, but it was not enough as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team's season came to an end Tuesday night with Felician University coming back from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat the Griffins 93-90 in the Quarterfinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

The Griffins finish their season at 14-13, recording their first winning season since 2011-12 when the Griffins went 18-12 and lost in the first round of the CACC Tournament. Felician improves to 17-9.

MJ Iraldi (West Deptford, N.J.) scored a career high 25 points (10-18 FG, 4-4 FT) while Amir Warrick (Washington, D.C.) added 20 points (7-8 FG, 5-5 FT).  Conor Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J.) chipped in 19 points (8-13 FG), grabbed six rebounds, and dished out a game-high five assists while Nigel Haughton (Bel Air, Md.) added 12 points and pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

The Griffins had a hot hand in the first half making ten of their first 13 shots and building a double digit lead 23-11 with 12:41 left.  The Golden Falcons closed within nine some four minutes later before the griffins used an 11-4 run to take their biggest lead of the game 42-26 with just over five minutes remaining.  Felician shaved five points off the lead as the half wound down with the Griffins up 48-37 at the break.

The Golden Falcons chipped away at the Griffin lead in the first part of the second half, cutting their deficit to single digits 54-46 at the 16:24 mark and five points 59-54 with 13:30 remaining.  The Griffins pushed the lead back up to seven 63-56 before five straight Felician points closed the gap to two 63-61. Two free throws from Iraldi and a three-pointer from Haughton pushed the lead back up to five 68-63.  Felician countered with a 10-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 73-70 with 7:55 left and later pushed the lead to eight 87-79 with 2:23 left.

The Griffins scored the next seven points to pull within one 87-86 with just 37 seconds remaining.  Twice more did the Griffins pull within one the last at 91-90 with nine ticks left on the clock. Felician added two free throws and the Griffins had one last chance to tie but James Rider IV's (Baltimore, Md.) three point shot was off the mark as time expired.

For the game, the Griffins shot 57.1% (36-63) from the field while the Golden Falcons shot 51.8% (29-56).  Where Felician held its biggest advantage weas at the free throw line outscoring the Griffins 25-9.  Felician held a slim 29-27 rebound margin and committed two fewer turnovers (11-13).
