Griffins Swept by Eagles

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team continued conference play on Saturday with a pair of games in Waterbury Connecticut as the Post University Eagles swept the double header 8-0 and 5-2.

The Griffins fall to 5-15 overall and 0-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games.  Post improves to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Steph Tonuci (Barrington, N.J.) had hits in both games, extending her hitting streak to nine games.  Victoria Grillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) had a pair of hits in the first game while Ariana Carreno (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and Kayla Rolon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had two hits apiece in the second. Skylar Cunningham (Covina, Calif.) drove in both runs in game two.

Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, N.J.) took the loss in game one while Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) suffered the defeat in the second game. Petroski gave up just four hits in the opener but struggled with her control all game, walking nine, while striking out four.  Reid gave up 11 hits while walking two and striking out one.

The Griffins took an early 1-0 lead in the second game as Cunningham's sacrifice fly brought home Tonuci who had singled to start the game. 

Post added solo runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings to lead 3-1 before the Griffins got one back in the top half of the sixth. Carreno and Rolon singled to start the inning.  Cunningham followed with a single to left field, scoring Carreno and making the score 3-2.  The eagles rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. 
Petroski doubled in the seventh before Carreno lined out to shortstop to end the game.

In the opener, Post did all their damage in the first two innings with six runs in the first and two more in the second. Post winning pitcher Briana Koref held the Griffins to just two singles the rest of the way.

The Griffins return to action on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, when they travel to Millersville University for a non-conference doubleheader.  The two games were originally scheduled to be played at Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, March 29.  First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
