The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team dropped their series finale with Florida Tech by a score of 5-0. The Griffins fall to 1-6 while the Panthers improve to 15-5 on the year.
Â
The Griffins played a solid defensive game behind pitcher
Pat Woltemate, only committing one error. Woltemate, who fell to 0-2 on the season, pitched seven innings, allowing nine hits and only two runs, all while never walking a single batter and striking out three. However, while the Griffins fielding and pitching was very strong on the day, they found it difficult to manufacture any offense, thanks in large part to Florida Tech's fine defensive play. Â
Â
Chestnut Hill's best scoring opportunities came in the third and fourth innings. In the third, freshman shortstop
Connor Evans doubled to left and junior
Nate O'Donnell singled, advancing him to third. In the fourth, the team has runners on second and third, following an
Andrew Dietz single, an
 Anthony Coombs  walk, and
Corbin Dunnuck fielder's choice. The Griffins, although knocking on the door, were not able to drive in the runs on either occasion.
Â
The Panthers then opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth on a double from left fielder Jakob Newton that plated two runs.
Â
In the eighth inning, with relief pitcher
Dan Rockenbach on the mound, Florida Tech tacked on three more runs. After finding themselves with the bases loaded, catcher Dylan Owens singled to right center, scoring two and moving a runner to third. Luca Wentzel then doubled to left center, driving in one more run and making it a 5-0 game.
Â
Florida Tech completes the three-game sweep of Chestnut Hill College, but the Griffins will remain in Florida to begin a two game series with Barry University, before traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida Memorial to cap off the trip to the Sunshine State.
