Softball Opens Season with Pair of Losses in Florida

The Chestnut Hill college women's softball Team opened their season Sunday with a pair of games at the Auburndale Softball complex at the spring Games in Auburndale Florida.  The Griffins lost to Stonehill College 9-1 in their first game of the day and 14-0 to Concordia-St. Paul in their second.

Stonehill scored twice in the first and again in the second inning and led 4-0 before the Griffins broke onto the scoreboard in the top half of the third.  Taylor Carter drew a two-out walk and came around to score on Steph Tonuci's double, cutting the Skyhawk lead to 4-1.

The Skyhawks added another run in the bottom half of the third, two more in the fourth and another two in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Lily Reid took the loss for the Griffins.

In game two, Chestnut Hill managed just two hits against a trio of pitchers from Concordia St. Paul as they fell to the Golden Bears 14-0 in five innings.

The Golden Bears scored four runs in the first two innings off CHC starter Madison Petroski (0-1) and then added seven more in the third inning off Jordan Tavarez.  The Griffins got both their hits in the bottom of the third inning on back-to-back singles from Carter and Tonuci.

CSP added three more runs in the top half of the fifth to round out the scoring.

The Chestnut Hill Women's Softball team returns to action on Monday at the Spring games when they face two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schools, Millersville University and University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown
