The Chestnut Hill College Softball Team dropped a pair of close contests with Dominican College on Tuesday, losing the first game 3-0 in extra innings and dropping the second game 6-3.
The two losses drop the Griffins record to 7-28 overall and 1-13 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Dominican improves to 11-15 overall and 6-6 in league contests.
Griffins' pitcher
Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, N.J.) matched the Chargers starter Kyra Wiens zero-for-zero through seven innings in the opener striking out seven while allowing just three hits through regulation. Wiens allowed just three hits over the eight innings and struck out 18 batters.
Victoria Grillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two of the three hits while
Steph Tonuci (Barrington, N.J.) had the third.
DC's Kristin Miscia broke the deadlock in the eighth inning with a three run home run over the left field fence. Wiens set down the Griffins in order in the bottom of the eighth to complete the three-hit shutout. Petroski (5-10) finished the game with eight strikeouts and allowed a total of five hits.
In game two the Chargers jumped out to an early 1-0 in the first inning before pitcher
Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) tied the game with a home run to right field. The Chargers added a solo run in the third on a Madison Walker home run and plated three more in the fourth to lead 5-1 before the Griffins narrowed the score in the fifth inning.
Reid and Grillo walked to start the inning before Reid was erased on a fielder' choice which put Grillo on second and
Samantha Toro (Brick, N.J.). on first.
Santina Arena (Brooklyn, N.Y.) sacrificed the two runners into scoring position before Tonuci hit a single into center field scoring clearing the bases and making the score 5-3.
Dominican added their final run in their last at-bat when Ariana Barnes hit a solo home run making the final score 6-3.
Reid took the loss falling to 2-13 allowing ten hits while striking out three.
The Griffins return to action on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 when they travel to take on Georgian Court University. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
