Madyson Schwartz became the latest Chestnut Hill college lacrosse player to record a "sock-trick" (6 goals in a game) as the Women's Lacrosse team won their final game of the season, defeating Caldwell university 14-6 Saturday afternoon in Caldwell, New Jersey.
The Griffins finish the season with a 3-11 overall record and a 2-7 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference mark. Caldwell finishes at 1-11 overall and 1-7 in league play
The six-goal effort by
Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa.) was a career-high, eclipsing the four goal game she had earlier this season against Felician. The junior attacker scored at least one goal in every quarter including three in the second quarter alone.
Frances Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) added three goals while
Ashley Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Danielle Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) had two goals apiece.Â
Torrin Kelley (Hanover, Pa.) also scored for the Griffins.
Kelley was also one of four Chestnut Hill players with two ground balls in the game along with
Elizabeth Bennett (Swedesboro, N.J.), Rexney Thenor (Burlington, N.J) and
Danielle Vassallo.Â
Molly Killion (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the team with three caused turnovers.Â
Mel Amador (Cape May, N.J.) had five saves in goal, earning the win in the process.
Danielle Vassallo started the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 9:42 mark of the first quarter. Schwartz followed at 2:43 in the period and added two more goals in the second quarter along with a goal from
Frances Vassallo to give the Griffins a 5-0 lead.
Following a Caldwell goal, Watson had an unassisted goal with 2:12 left in the half and Schwartz tallied her fourth of the game and third in the quarter with an assist from Killion with 59 second left to give Chestnut Hill a 7-1 lead at halftime.
Kelley scored a man-up goal to open the scoring in the third quarter. Two minutes later Schwartz scored her fifth goal of the game to make the score 9-2.  Caldwell followed with three unanswered goals to close out the third quarter as the Griffins hung on to a 9-5 lead.
Two minutes into the final quarter Schwartz struck for her sixth goal of the game starting what would be a 5-1 final period for the Griffins.Â
Frances Vassallo added two goals in the quarter, including a man-down score with 5:14 left. Daniel Vassallo added a goal and an assist and Watson scored off a free-position shot with 2:15 left to complete the Griffins scoring. Caldwell added a final goal with 38 seconds left for their sixth goal of the game and make the final score 14-6.
Schwartz finished the season with 23 goals tied for second on the team with
Danielle Vassallo.Â
Frances Vassallo led the team with 24 goals for the season.Â
