A final at-bat rally by the Chestnut Hill College Women's Softball team fell short as they lost both ends of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against holy Family University Monday afternoon at Bensalem high School in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, 8-0 and 5-3.
The Griffins fall to 8-36 overall with the two losses and 2-18 in league play. Holy Family improves to 14-29 overall and 9-11 in CACC games.
Trailing 5-1 heading into their final at-bat,
Peyton Baldwin singled to lead off the seventh, her third hit of the game. Baldwin moved to third on
Santina Arena's single and later scored on an infield error. Following a wild pitch
Victoria Grillo, representing the tying run, laced her second hit of the game, a single into centerfield, scoring Arena with Chestnut Hill's third run.  Grillo got as far as third base after a fielder's choice erased
Steph Tonuci trying to score.Â
Anastasia Watson walked to load the bases before
Kayla Rolon flied out to end the game.
The Griffin offense fared better in the second game than the opener which saw the team get no-hit for the first time in a conference contest this season.   The Griffins recorded eight hits as they dropped the 5-3 decision. Pitcher
Lily Reid gave up a two run home run to the Tigers in the first inning, staking the host team to an early lead. Â Reid also got the Griffins first hit of the day in the second inning and the Griffins added two more hits in the third but left the bases loaded.
Holy Family added another run in the third inning to lead 3-0 before the Griffins got on the board in the top half of the fifth inning. Baldwin led off the inning with a double to left field and came around to score on Grillo's single, making the score 3-1. The Tigers added another run in the bottom of the fifth and scored their fifth run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 5-1 before the Griffins rally in their final at-bat fell short.
In the opener, Holy Family pitcher Ashley Remington threw a five inning no-hitter against the Griffins as the Tigers won 8-0. The Griffins lone baserunner was Grillo who drew a second inning walk.
Remington struck out nine Griffin batters en route to the win.Â
Madison Petroski took the loss, allowing all eight runs (five earned) while striking out two.
