The Chestnut Hill College Softball team took on nationally ranked East Stroudsburg University Tuesday afternoon, holding the warriors to just three runs in a losing effort in the opener before ESU completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in game two.

The Griffins fall to 6-22 overall. East Stroudsburg, ranked #24 in the latest NFCA Division II poll improved to 24-2.

Lily Reid allowed just six hits in the opener while striking out two. All of the Warriors runs came from one blow, a three-run home run by Ashley Spencer in the first inning.  The Griffins scored their lone run in the second as
Kayla Rolon led off the inning with a home run to left field, making the score 3-1.
From there it was a pitcher's duel, Reid allowed just three hits the rest of the way while Warrior pitcher Kate Zaun retired the final 12 Chestnut Hill batters, 11 of them on strikeouts to earn the win.
In game two, the Warriors scored in six of the seven innings en route to an 8-1 win.Â
Jordan Tavarez took the loss for Chestnut Hill in a complete game effort, allowing all eight runs, the last two of which were unearned in the seventh inning.
The Griffins had just two hits in the game, both by
Anastasia Watson. Watson had a bloop single in the bottom of the second inning and a hard-hit infield single in the seventh, moving Rolon who had reached on a two-base error to third. Watson and Rolon then executed a double steal for the Griffins lone run of the game.
Kaitlin Houser had a two-out two-run home run in the seventh for the Warriors., one of five extra base hits for the ESU squad in the game.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team resumes conference play with a doubleheader at Holy Family University on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. The games will be played at Bensalem High School with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
