The Chestnut Hill College women's Softball team continued conference play on Saturday dropping a pair of close contests to host Bloomfield College , 2-0 and 6-3 in Little Ferry, New Jersey.
The Griffins fall to 6-24 overall and 0-10 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Bloomfield improves to 10-19 overall and 8-4 in league play.
In the opener,
Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, N.J.) allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out two but the Griffins offense struggled, recording just four hits, including a two-out triple from
Kayla Rolon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the fourth inning. Petroski falls to 4-8 on the season with the loss.
The Griffins produced three runs with just four hits in game two which included a triple from Petroski and a double from Rolon and timely sacrifice hits from
Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) and
Ariana Carreno (Pompano Beach, Fla.). Reid (6-10) took the loss, allowing all six runs (five earned) while striking out two.
Petroski tripled down the left field line in her first at-bat in game two and scored on Carreno's sacrifice fly to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Reis singled to start the second inning and went to third on
Samantha Toro's (Brick, N.J.) single and later scored on a wild pitch to give Chestnut Hill a 2-0 lead.
The Bears cut the score to 2-1 in the fourth and added four more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take 6-2 lead.
Rolon doubled to start the seventh and moved to third on a passed ball. Reid then delivered a sacrifice bunt, plating Rolon with the third Griffins run before Bloomfield pitcher Danielle Waters induced a groundout by Toro to end the game.
Chestnut Hill had their best opportunity to score in the sixth inning of the opening game, putting two runners in scoring position with two outs. Bloomfield pitcher Taylor Galyean then struck out Rolon to end the threat. Reid singled in the seventh but was unable to advance as Galyean retired the last two batters for the complete game win. Galyean finished the game with 11 strikeouts.
The Chestnut Hill college Women's Softball team is back in action on Sunday, April 10, 2022 when they host Dominican College at the chestnut Hill Softball field for a CACC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
