The Chestnut Hill College Women's soccer team earned their first win of the season with a strong effort on the road, defeating Queens College 1-0 in Flushing, New York Wednesday afternoon.
The Griffins even their record at 1-1 while Queens falls to 0-2.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Brace (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored the Griffins lone goal, the first of her college career in the 16
th minute to give the Griffins all the offense they needed.Â
Kaitlyn Carter (Philadelphia, Pa.) was solid in the net for Chestnut Hill, recording five saves as she earned her first collegiate shutout.
The Griffins pestered Knights goalkeeper Ariana Vargas early tallying three shots on goal in the first 13 minutes before Brace took a pass from
Rebecca Dalton (Philadelphia, Pa.) and fired a shot from just outside the box, finding the upper right portion of the net for the score at the 15:39 mark.
The Chestnut Hill offense added two more shots on net in the next ten minutes while their defense held the Knights to just five total shots in the first half with Carter saving the only one on goal.
The Knights offense outshot the Griffins 8-1 with four shots on goal in the second half, but could not find the net as Carter stopped all four, including two in the final six minutes. Two other shots by the Knights in that same span were blocked by the Griffins' defense
Abby Galazka (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Brace finished the game with two shots on goal apiece as the Griffins finished with seven on the afternoon.
The Griffins return to action on September 10, 2022 when they travel to the University of Bridgeport for their Central Atlantic collegiate Conference opener. Bridgeport is the newest member of the CACC, joining the past summer. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.  Â
