Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal by Jimenez Forges a 2-2 tie with Wilmington

Madeline Jimenez scored in the 85th minute as the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team forged a 2-2 tie with Wilmington University Tuesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The tie gives the Griffins a 1-2-1 record and an 0-1-1 mark in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference while Wilmington is now 2-3-2 with a 1-0-1 record in conference play.  The tie score also marks the Griffins first win or tie against the Wildcats since the 2011 season (a 3-1 win at Wilmington).

Trailing 2-1 late in the game, Jimenez broke free on the right side and took a pass from Abby Galazka and put a shot past Wildcat goalie Mio Nakajima for the tying score with just 4:24 remaining in the game.

With the game tied, the Griffins defense went to work, holding the Wildcats without a shot the rest of the way while continuing to push on offense.  Jimenez got one more shot off as time expired but the shot went high as the horn sounded.

It was Wilmington who struck first as Samantha Emmi scored off a corner kick just six minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.  Just over a minute later, the Griffins got the equalizer as Rachel Apsley scored after getting a pass from Rebecca Dalton, evening the score at 1-1.  Emi scored her second goal of the game at 23:25 to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead which held until Jimenez's shot tied things up.

The Griffins pushed the tempo of play throughout the game, outshooting the Wildcats 8-4 in the first half and 10-3 in the second and tallied nine shots on goal to the Wildcats six.  Jimenez finished the game with five shots (three on goal) while Apsley tallied four (three on goal).

Kaitlyn Carter recorded four saves in goal for Chestnut Hill.  Mia Nakajima finished the game with seven saves.

The Chestnut Hill college women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, September 17, 2022 as they host Alliance University (formerly Nyack College) at Victory Field.  Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
