Three straight second half goals by the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team provided enough offense as they overcame an early 1-0 deficit and hung on to defeat Alliance University 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Victory Field #1 in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins are now 2-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Alliance (formerly Nyack College) falls to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.
Alliance jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 14 minutes into the game with Mia Thompson scoring off a rebound and maintained the lead through halftime.Â
The Griffins wasted little time evening the score as
Lauren Sullivan took a free kick which deflected off the alliance defender right to the foot of
Maddie Camillo who shot the ball into the net to the left of AU goalkeeper Celene Grothe to tie the game at 1-1 just 1:23 into the second half.
In the 75
th minute, the Griffins struck again as a long pass found
Madeline Jimenez open on the left side. She dribbled in and tossed a cross pass to
Olivia Medeiros who shot form about six yards out and found the back of the net for a 2-1 Griffin lead.
Five minutes later in the 80
th minute, Jimenez found
Lizzie Stokes ahead of the field and as the AU keeper came out to cut the angle Stokes chipped in into the net from about 35 yards out to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead.
Lara Noe's penalty kick with just over five minutes remaining cut the lead to 3-2. The Griffins defense held Alliance without a shot the rest of the way as the hung on for their first conference win of the season.
Jimenez finished with two assists on the afternoon.Â
Kaitlyn Carter was solid in goal for the Griffins recording seven saves to earn her second win of the season. Medeiros finished the game with three total shots.
Both teams produced nine shots on goal with Alliance finished the game with two more shots overall (16-14).
The Griffins are back in action on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 when they travel to take on Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York.
