Conor Seeley scored the first two goals of his collegiate career as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team recorded their first win of the 2022 season, defeating Dominican University of New York 4-2 Saturday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins are now 1-5-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Dominican falls to 1-5-3 overall and 0-4-1 in league play.
Seeley put the Griffins on the board first in the contest, taking a cross pass from
Juan Ortiz and one-timed it past the Charger goalkeeper for a 1-0 CHC lead just 5:37 into the game.
The Chargers got the equalizer less than three minutes later on a goal by Maximo Cesares Martinez.
A cross pass from
Jason Barragan to
Juan Molina led to the Griffins second goal at the 19:54 mark and Seeley headed in a shot following a free kick from
Jorge Mendez at the 30:20 mark to boost the Griffins lead to 3-1.
While the Griffins offense was clicking, Seeley and the rest of the CHC defense were limiting the Chargers to just five total shots in the half with three landing on goal. Goalkeeper
Stephen Connor had two saves in the period.
In the second half, Barragan came through with an unassisted goal in the 48
th minute to put the Griffins ahead 4-1.
The Chargers now facing a three-goal deficit battled back with a barrage of shots aimed at producing as many scores as possible. In the 74
th minute, DU's Luis Guevara scored to make the score 4-2. The Chargers continued to push their offense and put a third goal past Connor with just under two minutes to play, cutting the Griffins lead to one 4-3.
Chestnut Hill controlled the tempo in the final two minutes, not allowing the Chargers to get a shot off as they hung on for the one-goal victory.
Connor finished the game with eight saves en route to his first collegiate victory.
